Estoy intentando compilar el ejemplo zpipe.c en mi Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) con gcc, pero yo estoy haciendo algunos errores, echar un vistazo:

Recuerde que he instalado zLib-dev correctamente, pero ¿por qué estoy recibiendo estos errores?

También debe vincularlo con la biblioteca zlib. Simplemente agregue -lz a su línea de comando.
